Bia Mara

The menu in Bia Mara
Before Christmas, Hubs and I were walking around town when we stumbled across a new eatery near de Bourse, on Rue de Marche aux Poulets (that’s the one with the conveyor-belt and Teppanyaki Japanese on it, and Celtica). I’d heard of Bia Mara through the grapevine, so feeling a bit peckish, we went in. We were greeted by the lovely and very friendly Barry and Simon, who run the place.

While Simon cooked our food, we chatted to Barry, who told us a little about their background – I won’t ruin their story, so you’ll have to ask them yourselves. We ordered two haddocks, with tartar and smoked chilli ketchup sauces and chips with balsamic & red onion and the garlic & chilli salts.  This came to €10 per person, and we added on a couple of Vedett’s to wash it all down with.

Proper fish n' chips
What can I say??? It was delicious! Proper fish n' chips come to Brussels at last! I was particularly taken with the balsamic vinegar salt (or maybe that’s cos it was someone else’s plate…). The fish was scrumptious – lovely chunks of haddock in a crunchy batter, while the chips were fluffy, and not a trace of grease. I’m looking forward to sampling some of the other things on the menu, especially the sides.

Watch out for the monthly disco Sunday’s, when after a special lunch, the tables will be pushed back and you can dance off your Sunday blues and/or hangover to some groovy beats!

Definitely a place to try!
